Mendix - no code platform
Luckily, I got few mins and to look into Mendix..... it looks ok..... well explained about their features(as on today, 13-May-2021).
Here is what I understood about each of the feature:
Application development
Not sure if it is only talking about web application or MSA based headless applications as well. Let us explore....And it is catching my attention, web application was never my strongest thing, how can say that publicly ;).
Signup - So I am creating my login, it is asking for corporate email sic! And domain and area, thank God! You know what I am already regretting, it will verify based on my corporate email and typical preference stuff
Getting started - Practically, I did click next/"do it for me" and POC is ready for preview, in few seconds, wow! And it is pretty cool.
Unfortunately, that all for me in application development as free tier; I could try no code development which can be deployed for web, tablet and mobile.
Cloud
I assume Cloud feature will help to deploy in cloud, should provide multi-cloud and cloud native so deploying applications should not be an issue.
Bottom line: I love it, will try more of development however as techy my heart still worries about deployment hassles.
Well in second part I am going to explore capabilities for backend and frontend development from simple to complex.
For backend:
Integration with 3rd party systems wont be difficult as it supports REST/SOAP natively.
Integration with on prem is made simpler with database connector.
And then necessary devil, java action could be called which means, simple to moderate complexity could be handled if it difficult to create using Mendix capabilities.
Visual data mapper a thing that we always require for mappings, need to see how well it handles various transformations scenarios from/to CSV/XML/json/database.
It does allow to work with excel sheets(sound very much like AWS Honey code).
One critical thing I would like to explore however didn't get a chance is exposing service build on the platform as API.
For frontend:
As I mentioned earlier, with my very good knowledge of frontend it looks rich and snappy, I can live with that.
Bottom line : I may use it for simple web applications if I get to know how easy it is to deploy manage and monitor these applications.
